Sometimes it happens that a rubber tree grows unevenly. Then only the handle to the scissors helps. The same applies if it becomes explosively larger.Rubber trees do not necessarily need a cut
Did you know that the rubber tree can reach a size of up to forty meters in nature? The trunk alone has a diameter of two meters in size. Such chunks are of course not wanted in the household. Therefore it is always good to know how to cut the rubber tree correctly.
The trim leads to side shoots
The rubber tree is one of the plants that seldom die when cut. Therefore, you hardly need to worry when pruning the tree. The pruning is really easy and has another benefit: You can use the trimmed shoots as cuttings to grow new rubber trees. You can cut it back at any time. However, the winter months are recommended, since then the juice flow is not so strong.
After a while, the rubber tree below the interface forms new shoots that protrude laterally from the main trunk or from the branch. You can broaden trees with just one stem and tall trees.
How to cut the rubber tree properly
It is important that you use a sharp cutting tool. If you want to trim the rubber tree in height, simply cut the trunk to the desired height using secateurs.
But be careful:
Plant juice then emerges from the interface. Simply dab the juice with a cloth. The interface then dries out after a short time.
However, if you want the boxwood to grow more upright, you can also remove the side shoots. Cut them off directly on the trunk.
Our tip: use clippings as cuttings
You can use the separated pieces of the rubber tree for propagation. Simply place the cuttings in a glass of water or in a vase and wait for roots to form. If the roots are big enough, you can plant the seedling in the ground and watch your second rubber tree grow.
By the way:
If you want to pull a rubber tree yourself, then you need patience. Because it takes two or three months for roots to develop. Do not be alarmed if there is no change at first. Alternatively, you can also sow the rubber tree. Here is a guide.
